FORT WORTH, Texas - The Air Force baseball team dropped a 10-5 Mountain West Conference ballgame at #15 TCU Sunday at Lupton Stadium. The loss drops the Falcons to 11-17, 0-5, while the Horned Frogs improved to 18-9, 5-1.
TCU pounded out 16 hits on the day and got dominant starting pitching from Steven Maxwell (4-0), who held Air Force to one run over seven innings.
The Falcons had seven hits on the day. Senior centerfielder Nathan Carter and sophomore leftfielder Alex Bast led AFA with two hits each, with Bast hitting a pair of doubles. Senior shortstop Vai Schierholtz scored two runs out of the leadoff spot and freshman Seth Kline added a pinch-hit two-run single in the eighth inning.
TCU jumped ahead 5-0 before the Falcons plated a run in the fith. The Frogs built their lead to 10-1 after seven innings.
Air Force mounted a late-game rally with four runs in the eighth to pull to within five. But the rally was quelled in the ninth as the Falcons could not muster any more runs.
Taylor Featherston led the Horned Frogs offensively, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Jantzen Witte added three hits, including a home run.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, April 5, hosting Northern Colorado.
