Air Force Swept In Doubleheader At Utah Friday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Air Force baseball team (7-19, 1-3) dropped a doubleheader to Utah (14-10, 4-1) Friday afternoon at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Falcons dropped game one 13-4 and game two 7-3.
In game one, Utah had three big innings to coast to the win. The Utes scored four runs in the fourth, five in the fourth and four in the fifth for all its runs. Air Force plated one run in the third and three in the sixth.
The Utes had 15 hits to the Falcons' eight. C.J. Cron went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and Nick Kuroczko 2-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Utah. Rick Cornu added a solo home run as well.
Utah starter Jordan Whatcott (4-3) went six innings, allowing four runs while striking out six, for the win. Tyler Wagner picked up the save with three hitless innigs of relief.
In game two, Utah broke open a 2-2 pitchers' duel with five runs in the eighth to win 7-3.
Despite the final line of seven runs allowed in 7.2 innings, freshman left-hander Kincaid Koehler kept the Falcons in the game with a strong effort on the mound. Through the first seven innings, Koehler held the Utes to two runs before tiring in the eighth. Evan Abrecht got the final out in the eighth in relief.
Ute starting pitcher Rick Anton (5-1) and reliever Brock Duke combined to hold Air Force to four hits. Anton allowed three hits and one earned run over 8.1 innings, striking out four.
Nik Gumeson broke open the 2-2 tie with a three-run homer in the eighth. Gumeson led Utah's 10-hit attack, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Roberts led Air Force with two hits, including a double and RBIs.
The Falcons and Utes will play the final game of series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
