WICHITA, Kan. - Air Force baseball dropped a 3-2 ballgame at Wichita State Tuesday at Eck Stadium Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Falcons to 8-14 and improved the Shockers to 12-10.
Despite just one hit in the game, the Falcons held a 2-1 lead until Wichita State scored two runs in the eighth to rally to the win.
Senior left fielder Alex Bast had the lone hit of the day for the Falcons in the fourth inning. The Falcon pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts in the loss.
Dillon Freeman (0-2) took the loss in relief for Air Force. Starting pitcher Steven Trojan pitched 3.1 innings, striking out six and allowing one run. Senior Ben Bertelson relieved Trojan and struck out seven over 3.2 innings in relief. Freeman followed Bertelson and Ben Yokley closed out the game.
Albert Minnis (2-1) picked up the win with two hitless inning of relief. Starting pitcher A.J. Ladwig allowed one run in 4.1 innings for WSU.
Both teams traded a run in the fourth. Air Force took a 2-1 lead with a sac-fly RBI by Seth Kline in the seventh.
Wichita State tied the game up in the eighth with a home run by designated hitter Johnny Coy. The Shockers plated a run later in the inning on an RBI-single by second baseman Connor Dearman.
