USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball lost to CSU Bakersfield, 4-1, Tuesday night at Hardt Field. The Falcons dropped to 6-16 while the Roadrunners improved to 8-14.
The Falcons were held to just one run off five hits in the loss. CSU Bakersfield starting pitcher Spenser Messmore (2-1) struck out seven in the complete game effort to earn the win.
The Roadrunners broke up a scoreless game with a run in the fourth inning. After the Falcons responded with a run in the fifth, CSUB responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and one more in the sixth.
Freshman designated hitter Casey Gibson led Air Force at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Freshman third baseman Noah Pierce went 1-for-3 with a run scored and junior shortstop Matthew Roberts was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
CSU Bakersfield had eight hits in the game. Center fielder Andrew Letourneau went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI to lead the Runners.
Game two of the two-game series is tomorrow at 5 p.m. PST.
