    USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball dropped a 15-4 ballgame to UNLV Saturday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 5-15, 1-1 while the Rebels improved to 11-12, 1-4.

    UNLV broke open a one-run game with an eight-run sixth inning, turning a 5-4 game into a 13-4 lead. The Rebels had 24 hits in the game. Left fielder Brandon Bayardi led UNLV, going 5-for-6 with four doubles.

    Air Force had eight hits in the game. Center fielder Alex Bast lef the Falcons at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run and RBI.

    Falcon starting pitcher Ben Bertelson (0-4) took the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, in five innings pitched. Jack Hourin, Mike Kazakoff, Ben Yokley and David Baska pitched in relief for the Falcons. Baska pitched the final three innings.

    UNLV starting pitcher Zak Qualls (3-1) pitched seven innings, allowing four runs off eight hits for the win.

    Air Force jumped ahead early with three runs in the second. Brian Sicher drove in Alex Bast on a squeeze bunt and Noah Pierce follwed with a two-run double.

    UNLV responded with four runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead. The Falcons tied it up in the bottom of the inning. The Rebels went back up with a run in the fifth. UNLV then put up the eight runs in the sixth. They also tacked on runs in the seventh and ninth innings.

     

     

    The rubber match of the series is tomorrow at 12 p.m.

    NOTES: Freshman Jake Sortor made his Falcon debut with a ground out in as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning...the two teams combined to hit into six double plays.
