Air Force Downed By #24 Wichita State 10-2 Tuesday

WICHITA, Kan. - Air Force baseball dropped a 10-2 contest at #24 Wichita State Tuesday night at Eck Stadium. The loss snapped the Falcons' four-game winning streak and dropped the team to 11-11 on the season, while the Shockers improved to 14-6.
Wichita State led 5-0 early on, after scoring three in the first and two in the third, and was never really threatened by the Falcons. Shocker starting pitcher Charlie Lowell (4-2) struck out 10 in 5.2 innings to pick up the win.
The Falcons were held to five hits on the day. Senior Nathan Carter returned to the lineup after sitting out the Portland series with an ankle injury and led the Falcons with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Patrick Lobo had an RBI single that scored Alex Bast for the Falcons second run. Vai Schierholtz continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
Air Force starting pitcher Kincaid Koehler (0-1) was roughed up for seven runs in 3.2 innings pitched in the loss. Alex Lerda-Plog, Mike Kazakoff, Brad Pingel and Jack Hourin pitched in relief. Hourin made his first appearance on the mound for the Falcons this season.
Wichita State had 12 hits in the game. Chris O'Brien led the way for the Shockers, going 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs.
After Carter's homer, Wichita State added two runs in the bottom of the inning and scored runs in the next three innings.
Game two of the series takes place tomorrow at 2 p.m. The game was moved up from the original 6:30 p.m. start time due to Wichita State's men's basketball NIT game tomorrow evening.
