Air Force Drops Series Finale At BYU, 10-5

PROVO, Utah - The Air Force baseball team lost at BYU, 10-5, in Mountain West Conference play Saturday afternoon at Larry H. Miller Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 7-12, 0-3 while the Cougars improved to 12-10, 3-3.
The loss was a tough one for the Falcons, who rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a five run sixth inning. BYU came right back however, with six unanswered runs, highlighted by a five-run seventh inning, to come back for the win.
Air Force struggled to get its offense going again, as the team was held to five hits for the second-consecutive game. Freshman Matt Barattino (0-2) took the loss for the Falcons. Starter David Miller went five innings, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out three. Jeff Abt, Michael Ruvol and Gregg Laswell also saw action in relief.
BYU reliever Blake Torgerson (3-2) picked up the win. Cougar starter Sean Amerson went five innings, allowing five runs on four hits and struck out one.
The Cougars had 12 hits in the game. J.T. Musso and Sean McNaughton drove in three each and Brandon Relf homered for BYU.
BYU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Air Force then scored five in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.
The lead did not last long as the Cougars tied it up with a run in the bottom of the sixth and then put up five more in the seventh.
Air Force returns to action Monday, March 24, at Charleston Southern.
