MANHATTAN, Kan. - Air Force baseball dropped a 17-2 ballgame at Kansas State Tuesday night in front of 2,601 fans at Tointon Family Stadium. The Falcons dropped to 4-14 on the season and the Wildcats improved to 12-7.
Kansas State had 17 hits in the game and had a pair of five-run innings to pull away with the win.
Wildcat starting pitcher Nate Griep (1-0) pitched five innings, striking out five for the win. Catcher Tanner DeVinny went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and right fielder Mitch Meyer went 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs for K-State.
Air Force had eight hits in the game. Centerfielder David Thomas went 3-for-3 with a home run and both runs scored.
Kansas State scored a run in the top of the first to take an early lead. The Falcons plated a run in the second to tie the game up.
The Wildcats put up two in the bottom of the inning to re-take the lead. K-State then added four in the third and five in the fourth. The Wildcats also scored five in the seventh.
Game two of the series is tomorrow at 3 pm CST. The game will be televised on FOX College Sports.
