Air Force Falls To UC Davis, 14-5, at Gifford Memorial Tournament
March 11, 2010 SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Air Force baseball team dropped a 14-5 non-conference game to UC Davis Thursday night the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The loss dropped the Falcons to 3-10 and improved the Aggies to 7-6. UC Davis erupted for 13 combined runs in the second, third and fourth innings to pull away with the win. The Aggies scored three in the second and third and seven in the fourth. Air Force was held to eight hits in the loss. Freshman Garrett Custons and senior Addison Gentry led the Falcons with two hits each. Custons scored two runs and Gentry drove in two. UC Davis had 13 hits in the game, led by Daniel Cepin's 4-for-4 performance. Freshman left-hander Kincaid Koehler (1-1) took the loss in his first-career start for the Falcons. Koehler lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing six runs. Freshmen Jack Hourin and Alex Lerda-Plog and sophomores Mike Kazakoff and Michael Ceci also pitched in relief. Ceci was Air Force's most effective reliever, holding UCD to one run in 3.1 innings of work. Aggie starter Nathan Slater (2-1) picked up the win, striking out eight in 5.1 innings, while allowing three runs. ***Game Time Update For Friday Game*** Air Force returns to action Friday, March 12, taking on tournament host San Jose State. Due to rain forecast late Friday, first pitch has been moved up to 12 p.m. PST, from the original 6 p.m. start.
