Air Force Splits Sunday Doubleheader at #25 San Diego State

Air Force baseball (5-10, 1-2 MW) split a doubleheader at #25 San Diego State (10-5, 4-1 MW) in Mountain West action Sunday at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, Calif.  The Falcons won game one, 7-3 and dropped game two, 3-2.

In game one, junior Matt Hargreaves (1-3) held San Diego State to one run over seven-plus innings for his first win of the season.  Hargreaves tossed seven scoreless innings to start the game, allowing his lone run in the eighth.  

The Falcons broke up a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth inning.  Air Force added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Air Force had 10 hits, with all nine starters recording a base hit.  Nic Ready went 2 for 5 with a double and home run and Rob Dau added a hit and two RBIs.  Ashton Easley also added a double.

Shawn Kelley logged 1.1 innings in relief and Josh Leaser closed out the game by recording the final two outs.

Harrison Pyatt (1-1) allowed six runs over five innings in the start for San Diego State.  The Aztecs had 11 hits.  Chad Bible went 3 for 5 with a homer and two RBIs.

In game two, San Diego State held on to a 3-2 win.  The Aztecs plated two runs in the first and one in the second to jump ahead 3-0.  The Falcons scored runs in the eighth and ninth innings to make it close.

Ryan Holloway (1-1) logged 4.2 innings in the start.  Holloway allowed three runs, one earned.  It was Holloway’s first earned run allowed in 19 innings so far this season (0.50 ERA).  Nic Biancalana followed with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits.

Garrett Hill (3-0) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight for the Aztecs.  Jorge Fernandez pitched the final two innings for the save.

Air Force had four hits in the game.  Rob Dau had an RBI single and Ryan Robb and Ashton Easley scored for the Falcons.  Both Robb, Easley and Tyler Zabojnik had base hits.

San Diego State had seven hits.  Catcher Dean Nevarez went 2 for 3 with a home run.

Air Force returns to action Tuesday, March 13, hosting Adams State.
