Air Force Falls To USC Upstate, 6-2, Sunday

    SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Air Force baseball dropped a 6-2 ballgame to USC Upstate Sunday afternoon at Harley Park. The loss drops the Falcons to 3-8, while the Spartans improve to 9-1.

    Spartan starting pitcher Scott DeCecco (3-0) held the Falcons to two runs off three hits in seven innings of work for the win.

    Falcon starting pitcher Michael Ceci (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings of work. David Baska, Mike Kazakoff, Matt Zettler and Jack Hourin pitched in relief for the Falcons.

    Air Force led early on, scoring a run in the first. Alex Bast hit and RBI-single to knock in Blair Roberts.

    USC Upstate scored two runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Spartans extended their lead with a run in the fifth, two more in the sixth and one in the ninth.

    Air Force had four hits in the game. Matthew Roberts led the Falcons with a double for AFA's lone extra base hit.

    USC Upstate had 11 hits in the game. Gaither Bumgardner led the Spartans at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

    Air Force returns to action next weekend at Portland, playing a four-game set vs. the Pilots.
