Air Force baseball was downed 11-3 at #17 Dallas Baptist (5-3) Friday night at Horner Ballpark in Dallas, Texas. Junior Drew Wiss led the Falcons with a home run and two RBIs.
A pair of big innings helped lift Dallas Baptist to the series-opening win. The Patriots took control of the game with a five-run second inning and pulled a way with four runs in the eighth.
Air Force scored two runs in the third on a two-run homer by Wiss, the first long-ball of his career. Dallas Baptist scored runs in the fourth and seventh before the big eighth inning.
Air Force scored its third run in the seventh as freshman Tyler Ward stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Falcons had six hits on the night. Senior Jacob Booker went 2-for-3. Junior Rob Dau added a hit, run and walk. Ward and senior Tyler Zabojnik also had base hits.
Junior Tyler Mortenson (0-3) pitched five innings in the start for the Falcons. Mortenson struck out a career-high seven batters. Sophomore Shawn Kelly relieved Mortenson and pitched two innings. Freshman Luke Chilcutt got all three outs in the eighth.
Dallas Baptist had 10 hits. Devlin Granberg had two hits and four RBIs and Jameson Hannah scored three runs for the Patriots.
MD Johnson (2-1) pitched 6.2 innings for DBU, allowing three runs and striking out nine.
