Air Force baseball was downed 15-5 at #25 North Carolina State (8-1) on a rainy Monday afternoon at Doak Field at Dale Park in Raleigh, N.C. Junior Nic Ready led the Falcons with a home run and three RBIs.
Air Force (1-6) led 5-2 midway through the seventh inning, before NC State scored 13 unanswered runs, aided by a four home runs. The Wolfpack hit five home runs total in the game.
The Falcons had just broken up a 2-2 tie ballgame with three runs in the top of the seventh to go up 5-2. Ryan Robb had an RBI-single and Ready hit a two-run triple.
NC State responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a pair of three-run homers, to jump ahead 10-5. A three-run homer, folllowed up a two-run homer in the eighth capped the scoring barrage by the Wolfpack.
Air Force had eight hits on the day. Ready went 2-for-4 with a run. Robb and freshman Tyler Ward had two hits each. Junior Drew Wiss added a double and two runs scored. Tyler Zabojnik also hit an RBI-single.
Air Force reliever Nick Biancalana (0-1) took the loss. Starting pitcher Ethan Nichols allowed one run off four hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Luke Chilcutt, Tucker Jacobs and Joe Kincart also pitched in relief.
NC State had 15 hits. Brett Kinneman went 4-for-6 with a pair of three-run homers for six RBIs.
Reliever Michael Beinlein (1-0) picked up the win for NC State. Starting pitcher Mathiou Gauthier pitched three innings, allowing two earned runs.
Air Force led 2-0 early on with a run in the first and third innings. NC State scored runs in the fourth and sixth to tie it up before the flurry of late-game scoring. The game was played in steady rain throughout the whole game.
Air Force returns to action this weekend at Dallas Baptist. The three-game series begins Friday night, March 2, at Horner Ballpark in Dallas, Texas.
