Air Force Swept In Saturday Doubleheader at Cal State Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Air Force baseball (0-3) was swept in a Saturday doubleheader at Cal State Bakersfield (3-0). The Falcons dropped game one, 9-4, and game two 13-3 at Hardt Field.
In game one, Jonathan Montoya (1-0) held Air Force to two runs, while striking out eight in six innings as CSUB won 9-4. The Roadrunners had 13 hits in the game, with homers by Martin Medina and Jason Kudlock.
The Falcons were held to seven hits in the game. Freshman Garrett Custons and junior Nathan Carter led the way with two hits each and senior Ben Ausbun hit Air Force's first home run of the season. Freshman Alex Bast also made his debut with a two-run pinch-hit double.
Freshman righthander Sean Carley (0-1) took the loss in his collegiate debut. Carley struck out three in six innings, allowing seven runs, five earned. Freshmen Ben Bertelson and Jack Hourin also made their collegiate debuts in relief. Sophomore Mike Kazakoff and Kincaid Koehler also pitched in relief.
In game two, CSUB scored 12 of its 13 runs in the first five innings to coast to the 13-3 win. The Roadrunners racked up 20 hits in the game. Brandon Boren went 5-for-6 and Medina went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs.
Air Force had eight hits in the game, with senior Matt Alexander leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance.
Roadrunner starter Matt Reyes (1-0) held the Falcons to three runs in seven innings, while striking out four. Air Force starter Evan Abrecht (0-1) went four innings, allowing seven runs while striking out four.
Michael Ceci, Andrew Loyd, Matt Zettler, Michael Ruvolo and Ben Bertelson pitched in relief for the Falcons. Freshman Johnathan Bramble made his Falcon debut, going 1-for-4 in the start at right field. Freshman Caleb Spengler also made his debut with a pinch-hit at bat.
Air Force and CSUB wrap up the four game series tomorrow, Feb. 21. First pitch is 12 p.m. PST.
