SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Air Force baseball lost 12-4 to UTSA Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 0-4 and improved the Roadrunners to 4-0.
UTSA scored in every inning but the first inning, highlighted by a five-run seventh.
The Falcons had 11 hits in the game. Junior center fielder Bavid Baska led the way, going 3-for-5 with a double. Baska also retired the final UTSA batter in relief in the eight inning. Senior right fielder Garrett Custons hit hist fourth double of the young season and sophomore designated hitter David Thomas added a triple.
Freshman Steven Trojan pitched five innings in his collegiate debut for Air Force, striking out three in the process. The Falcons used six relievers in the game. Jack Hourin, Brady Weaver, Ben Yokley, Bo Wilson, Chris Cecil and Baska pitched in relief for AFA.
Nolan Trabanino picked up the win in relief for UTSA. Roadrunner starting pitcher Jordan Pacheco pitched four innings, allowing three runs.
UTSA had 15 hits in the game. Shortstop R.J. Perucki and second baseman Jesse Baker had three hits each to lead the Roadrunners.
The Falcons plated runs in the first two innings to take early 1-0 and 2-1 leads and held a 3-2 lead after the top of the fourth. UTSA tied it up with a run in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead with two runs in the fourth. After a run in the sixth, the big seventh inning put the Roadrunners ahead, 11-4. UTSA tacked on a final run in the eighth.
Air Force returns to action Friday, Feb. 22 against Navy at the Freedom Classic in Kinston, N.C.
