HIGH SCHOOL (Lincoln Park Academy): Lettered four years in baseball…4-2 record with 1.24 ERA as a senior…struck out 85 in 51 innings pitched, allowing just 30 hits…all-area…two-time team captain…two-time Cy Young Award winner…also earned coach’s award…high school baseball coach was John Boltersdorf…played summer ball for the Easton Rockets, coached by Max Rios…National Honor Society member.
PERSONAL: Member of cadet squadron 6…son of Eugene and Jane Gerlica…has an older sister…considering management major and a career field of pilot…hobby is water skiing…began playing baseball at age five…greatest personal moment in sports was throwing a no-hitter against the 8A District Champions…something not many people know about him is that he wasn’t a pitcher until his junior year of high school…guilty pleasure is binge-watching Family Guy while eating Chipotle…dream vacation spot is Hawaii…favorite MLB team is the New York Mets…favorite MLB player is Noah Syndergaard…pregame ritual is eating the same thing before every game and not talking to anyone before a start…enjoys listening to anything but mostly rap and country…credits his dad as having the biggest impact on his baseball career…favorite quote: “Sometimes you win, something you lose, sometimes it rains…think about that.”
Why I came to the Academy: “To become a better person and challenge myself in all aspects of life. I didn’t want the usual college experience.”
