Dec. 6, 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Sean Houseworth, a 2009 Air Force Academy graduate and four-year member of the Falcons' cross country and track/field teams, recorded an Olympic Trials "A" Qualifying time during a winning performance at the Zappos.com Rock `N' Roll Las Vegas Half-Marathon on Sunday, Dec. 4. Houseworth, who trains at the Academy with head cross country coach Juli Benson as a member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program (WCAP), crossed the finish line of the 13.1-mile race in one hour, three minutes and 12 seconds (1:03:12) to win the night race that featured over 33,000 competitors. Competing in just the second half-marathon of his career, Houseworth easily surpassed the Olympic Trials standard of 1:05, while cutting two minutes off of his first half-marathon time (2009, Las Vegas). Running a course that started and ended at Mandalay Bay, while navigating the Las Vegas strip to downtown and back, Houseworth averaged a 4:50 pace.
