NEW ORLEANS, La. - Three members of the Air Force cross country team were recognized with All-Region distinction, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today (Nov. 18). Senior Isaiah Bragg and sophomore Patrick Corona earned all-region status on the men's side, while sophomore Hannah Everson received the honor on the women's side.
Bragg and Corona are the first all-region selections for the men since 2011, while Everson is just the fourth member of the women's program to ever earn all-region honors.
Competing in cross country's first 10K of the year, Bragg came in under the 30-minute mark for the first time in the last 18 years, as he clocked a career-best time of 29:49.6 to finish 13th - the program's best individual regional finish since 2010. Corona finished 21st in the 115-runner field, recording a time of 30:00.4 in his 10K debut.
The pair brings the program's all-time total of men's all-region selections to 16.
On the women's side, Everson paced the Falcons to their best-ever team finish (fifth) a Division I regional championship meet. The sophomore, who clocked a 6K time of 21:06.6 to finish 20th in the 136-runner event, matched the program's best individual regional finish in Academy history.
The USTFCCCA awarded 450 all-region accolades to the top 25 individual finishes in both the men's and women's races from each of the regional meets that took place across the country last Friday.
Bragg, Corona and the rest of the 24th-ranked men's team head to Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 23, for the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Championships. The men's 10K championship race will take place at noon on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the Wabash Family Sports Center.
