NEW ORLEANS – Five members of the Air Force cross country team earned all-region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this evening (Nov. 10), as the USTFCCCA recognized 450 runners from across the country that finished within the top 25 of the nine regional meets that were contested earlier today.
The men, who finished fifth in the team standings, claimed three all-region selections. Junior Mickey Davey finished eighth out of 121 runners for his first all-region award, while classmate Jacob Bilvado earned his first all-region accolade with a 16th-place finish. Senior Andrew Johnston became the ninth member of the men’s program to garner all-region accolades multiple times in a career, as he finished 22nd to earn the all-region distinction for the second-straight season.
Both of the women’s all-region selections are repeat honorees. Junior Jaci Smith nabbed all-region accolades for the second time in as many years, as she placed sixth in the 133-runner event and paced Air Force to a sixth-place team finish, while senior Carina Gillespie became the first Air Force female to earn three all-region honors (2015, 2016, 2017) following a 15th-place finish.
The Falcons’ five total all-region selections is a new Academy record, breaking the previous tally of four that had been set three times (2003, 2015, 2016).
