Meet Notes 02: at Woody Greeno Invitational

SHAKING OFF THE RUST
The women's team had a strong start to the season, taking three of the top four spots at the UCCS Rust Buster invitational on Sept. 11. Katherine Ward paced the Falcons with a second-place time of 15:26.99, while Katie Carroll and Morgan Mosby finished third (15:34.50) and fourth (15:41.21), respectively.
SHOWING A LITTLE CLASS
Each of the top four runners for the women's team represented a different class year at the Rust Buster Invitational. Senior Katherine Ward placed second, followed by junior Katie Carroll (third) and sophomore Morgan Mosby (fourth). Freshman Carley Gross rounded out the Falcons' top-10 finishers with a ninth-place time.
WALMSLEY PACES MEN AT UCCS
The Falcons, who earned three top-10 finishes at the Rust Buster Invitational on Sept. 11, were paced by Jim Walmsley, who finished third in 19:22.35. Jeremy Drenckhahn (eighth, 19:48.42) and Matt Bell (10th, 19:59.34) rounded out the men's top-10 for Air Force. The Falcons claimed nearly half of the top 15, as Alex Zubey, Jon Rock and Tyler Small finished 11th, 12th and 15th, respectively.
GETTING THERE IN THE END
Air Force's men started the 6K race in a pack and no individual was within the top 30 at the first 2000-meter checkpoint. However, the field greatly shifted by the time the runners crossed the finish line, as three Falcons placed within the top 10, nine within the top 20 and 15 within the top 30.
WHAT'S ON DECK
The Falcons are off from competition until Saturday, Oct. 2, when they split for a pair of meets. Select members of the team will travel to Madison, Wis., for the adidas Invitational, while the rest of the squad heads to Boulder, Colo., for the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
