COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force senior Jake Hawkins and sophomore Hannah Everson were named the Mountain West Men's and Women's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (Sept. 10). It is the first weekly honor for both Hawkins and Everson, who won their respective 5K races at last week's Colorado State Open.
Backed by a career-best time of 14:55.10, Hawkins won the 115-runner men's 5K race around the parking fields of Hughes Stadium. His time, which bettered the field by nearly two seconds, helped Air Force to the CSU Open team title and a 3-0 dual meet record against the other Division I teams.
Everson bettered the 77-runner women's field by nearly 33 seconds, as she completed the 5K course in a personal-best time of 18:02.00. Her time, a personal improvement of 40 seconds, paced the Falcons to the overall team title and a perfect 3-0 mark against the three other Division I squads.
The pair, who also shared Air Force's athlete of the week award, brings the program's total of Mountain West Runner of the Week honors to 26.
