Air Force volunteer distance coach Jenny Simpson will compete at the 2011 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, Korea. Simpson, who trains at the Academy with the Falcons' head cross country coach Juli Benson, will participate in the 1500-meter run during the world championship meet at Daegu Stadium.
The IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet features nearly 2000 athletes from over 200 countries.
Simpson, who runs for New Balance, earned a spot on the U.S. National Team after placing second in the 1500-meter run (4:05.66) at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in late June. A 2009 graduate from the University of Colorado, Simpson won the 2011 U.S. indoor titles in the mile and 3000-meter events, before finishing second in the 3000-meter race at the outdoor championships.
