Air Force Men Picked Second in Preseason Cross Country Poll


    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Air Force men's cross country team was predicted to finish second at the Mountain West Conference Championships, the league announced today (Aug. 22) with the release of the annual preseason coaches' poll.

    The Falcons collected 20 points, finishing only behind six-time champion BYU, which received five first-place votes with 25 points. Colorado State, who earned the other first-place vote, was third with 18 points. Wyoming (12), New Mexico (10) and TCU (5) rounded out the six men's teams.

    On the women's side, Air Force tied with San Diego State for fifth-place, as each school collected 28 points. Seven-time conference champion BYU was once again selected to win the conference with eight first-place votes and 64 total points. Colorado State again earned one first-place vote to finish second with 56 points. New Mexico (49) and Wyoming (41) were selected to finish third and fourth, respectively. Utah (26), TCU (22) and UNLV (10) round out the nine-team women's field.

    Air Force opens the season on Saturday, Sept. 1, when it heads to Laramie for the annual Wyoming Invitational.
