Men Third, Women Sixth in MW Preseason Poll

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force men's cross country team was picked to finish third in the Mountain West, the league office announced this afternoon (Aug. 21) with the release of the annual preseason coaches' poll. While the men tied for third in the eight-team standings, the women were picked sixth out of 11 teams.
The men collected 35 points to tie for third with Boise State in the eight-team league. Five-time defending champion New Mexico (49 points) claimed seven first-place votes, while Colorado State was picked second with 40 points and the final first-place vote. The Falcons and Broncos tied for third with 35 points apiece, while Wyoming (fifth, 23) and Utah State (sixth, 22) were separated by just one point. Fresno State (seventh, 13) and San Jose State (eighth, 7) rounded out the field.
The women were chosen sixth in the preseason rankings, collecting 58 points from the 11 league coaches. New Mexico, winners of the last six conference titles, was picked to repeat in 2014, earning 97 points and seven first-place votes. The Lobos just edged Boise State, who earned 92 points and the remaining four first-place votes. Colorado State (third, 82), Wyoming (fourth, 63) and Utah State (fifth, 61) rounded out the top five and were followed by Air Force (sixth, 58), Nevada (seventh, 54), Fresno State (eighth, 41), San Diego State (ninth, 25), San Jose State (10th, 18) and UNLV (11th, 17).
Air Force, under the direction of first-year head coach Ryan Cole, opens the 2014 campaign on Friday, Sept. 5, at the Fresno State Invitational.
