USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With nine meets on the calendar, the Air Force cross country team announced its schedule for the upcoming 2012 season this afternoon. The Falcons, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Juli Benson, will compete in six regular season competitions, as they prepare for the conference, regional and national championships.
The Falcons open the 2012 campaign on Friday, Aug. 31, in Fort Collins, Colo., for the Colorado State Open. Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the annual Woody Greeno Invitational. The team closes out the first full month of the season at a pair of competitions on Saturday, Sept. 29. Select runners will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the Rim Rock Classic, while the rest of the team heads to the Boulder, Colo., for the 27th-annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
Air Force will compete at the Metro State Invitational in Denver on Saturday, Oct. 6, before closing out the regular season at the prestigious Pre-Nationals Meet in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The championship season begins for the Falcons on Friday, Oct. 26, when they travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Mountain West Cross Country Championships. The Falcons return to Fort Collins two weeks later for the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 9. The top teams and individuals from the regional site with advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, which concludes the 2012 season on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, Ky.
