Men Place 15th at Pre-Nationals Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Backed by three runners finishing within the top-third of the field, the Air Force men's cross country team picked up a 15th place finish at the prestigious Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 18. On the women's side, Air Force finished 37th.
The men's `White' race, which was held on the course of the 2009 NCAA Championships, featured 40 teams from around the country. The men accumulated 410 points to finish 15th in the field.
Senior co-captain Sean Houseworth paced the Falcons with a season-best 64th-place time of 24:35. In fact, all five of the Falcons' scoring runners clocked season-best times and finished within the top 100 in a race that featured 267 athletes. Classmate and fellow captain Matt Williams clocked a time of 24:41 to finish 73rd.
Sophomore Justin Tyner crossed the finish line in a time of 24:48 to place 87th, while senior Daniel Castle and junior Zach Nordahl rounded out the Air Force scorers. Castle clocked a time of 24:50 to finish 92nd, while Nordahl crossed the finish line in 24:52 to place 94th.
On the women's side, junior Katie Lynch led the Falcons to a 37th-place team finish (966 points) in their first 6k race of the season. Lynch finished in a time of 22:30 to finish 168th in a field of 278. Classmate Ally Romanko crossed the finish line in 22:39 to place 184th, while sophomore Katherine Ward clocked 22:45 to finish 191st.
A pair of freshmen rounded out the Air Force scoring runners. Elyse Willard finished in 22:52 to place 206th, while Auriele Fain recorded a time of 23:00 to finish 217th. Fellow freshman Katherine Carroll also competed at the meet, finishing 277th (25:43).
Air Force concludes the regular season on Friday, Oct. 24, when it hosts the annual Air Force Open at the Academy's Eisenhower Golf Course.
