Air Force Wins Third-Straight Fort Hays Invitational Title

    HAYS, Kan. - For the third-straight season, the Air Force men's cross country team won the Fort Hays State Tiger Invitational.  Backed by a ninth-place finish from sophomore Scott Balcao, the Falcons totaled 78 points to easily win the 11-team meet.

     

    Balcao clocked 26:18 to finish ninth in the 8k race.  Freshman Thomas Richter placed 17th, with a time of 27:09, while classmate Zachary Nordahl was close behind with a time of 27:17 to finish 19th. Sophomore Daniel Castle and freshman Ryan Workman place 22nd and 23rd, with respective times of 27:16 and 27:18 to round out the Falcons' scoring runners.

     


     

     

    Sophomores Justin Mason placed 26th after clocking a time of 27:23, while classmate Parker Cowles finished 32nd with a time of 27:38.  Freshman Steven Grey clocked 27:47 to finish 35th in his season debut. 

     

    Arthur Grijalva finished 41st with a time of 28:00, while sophomore Kyle Jones registered a time of 28:09 to finish 46th. Freshmen Austin Fritzke (59th-29:01) and Andy Schweitzer (75th-29:52) rounded out the field for Air Force.

     

    The Falcons sent just two runners to Kansas in the women's field.  Freshman Sara Juback finished 30th in 20:19, while sophomore Jamie Illig placed 53rd with a time of 21:18.

     

    The varsity squad heads to Terre Haute, Ind., next weekend for the prestigious Pre-NCAA Meet on Saturday, Oct. 14.
