Air Force Runners Place Fifth at Colorado State Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Air Force cross country teams picked up a pair of fifth-place finishes at the Colorado State Classic on Friday, Sept. 18, in Fort Collins, Colo. Senior Brittany Morreale led the women's team with a 17th-place finish, while freshman Matt Bell used his 34th-place finish to pace the men's squad.

Morreale clocked a 5K time of 20:07 to finish 17th in a women's field of 54. She was one of four Falcons to place within the top half of the field. Freshman Morgan Mosby placed 20th, after crossing the finish line in 20:23, while sophomore Meghan Prinkey (20:39) and freshman Melissa Fuerst (20:48) finished 22nd and 25th, respectively. Junior Whitney Beck rounded out the Air Force scorers with a 29th-place finish of 21:07.

Bell ran the four-mile men's course in 21:40, placing 34th in the 62-runner field. He was one of seven freshmen to compete in the meet. Andrew Quallio placed 38th in 22:01, while Seth Pelletier's time of 22:06 allowed him to finish 39th. Senior Conor Murphy made his season debut with a with a 44th-place time of 22:31 and freshman Dylan Hallums clocked a time of 22:47 to round out Air Force's scoring with a 45th-place finish.


 

 

Eight other Air Force runners (four women, four men) also competed at the Colorado State Classic. Freshman Kara Hovseth placed 30th with a time of 21:11, while classmate Dominique Amor finished 34th in 21:24, while sophomore Alexa Ramsier (21:33) and freshman Kathleen Vardell (22:18) placed 37th and 42nd, respectively. On the men's side, freshman Zak Boston placed 48th with a time of 23:17, while classmate Thomas Heikkinen finished 52nd in 23:36. Fellow first-year runners Gage Owens (23:58) and Ted Artz (24:41) rounded out the Falcons' runners with respective 54th- and 58th-place finishes.

Air Force's varsity runners will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 26, for the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational.
