Women Have Strong Start to 2012 Season

    FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Highlighted by five of the top seven finishes, the Air Force women's cross country team opened the season with a strong showing at the Colorado State Open on Friday, Aug. 31, in Fort Collins, Colo. Seniors Jen Bremser and Melissa Fuerst paced the women to five of the top seven spots in the women's 5K race.

    Bremser clocked a time of 18:13.8 to finish second in the 52-runner race, while Fuerst finished third in a time of 18:20.2. Freshman Anna Olesinski, sophomore Rebecca Esselstein and freshman Hannah Everson finished fifth (18:33.5), sixth (18:36.9) and seventh (18:42.6), respectively, to round out the Falcons' top-five finishers.

    Seniors Kate Kanetzky and Morgan Mosby finished 13th (19:07.8) and 14th (19:08.4), respectively, while sophomore Heather Connick rounded out the top-20 finishers with an 18th-place time of 19:19.1. Junior Adrianna Dong clocked a time of 19:47.3 to finish 26th, while classmate Annette Eichenberger finished 28th with a time of 19:53.5. Freshman Emily Wagemaker (33rd, 20:21.2) and sophomore Marie Rossillon (37th, 20:53.1) rounded out the contingent of Air Force runners.

    Junior Carl Eifert clocked a team-leading 5K time of 16:03.9 to finish 16th in the 69-runner men's race. Senior Ted Artz also clocked a top-20 time, as he placed 18th in 16:05.8. Junior Carson Fugal and senior Seth Pelletier finished 23rd (16:08.6) and 29th (16:16.5), respectively, while senior Gage Owens rounded out the Falcons' top-five finishers with a 33rd-place time of 16:23.9.

     

     

    Ten freshmen made their collegiate debut at the Colorado State Open. Patrick Corona and Kevin Mihalik placed 40th (16:40.0) and 41st (16:41.6), respectively, while Chris Madaffari placed 43rd in a time of 16:43.9. Sean Bapty (48th, 16:52.3) and Dan Caddigan (49th, 16:53.1) collected back-to-back finishes, as did the pairs of Casey Peloquin (54th, 17:07.5) and Daniel Shellhouse (55th, 17:10.7) and Tanner Ruhl (59th, 17:33.4) and Andrew Hood (60th, 17:37.5). Stone Shoaf rounded out the Air Force contingent with a 65th-place time of 17:59.8.

    Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the annual Woody Greeno Invitational.
