Air Force Places 15 on Academic All-Conference List

Nine men and six women earned academic all-league honors.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014: Competed in four meets, including the conference championships...recorded a career-best 8K time of 24:58.70 to finish 40th at the Mountain West Championships...also competed in that distance at the Pre-National Invitational, finishing fifth in the Open Race with a time of 25:51.20...ran a five-mile time of 24:53.20 at the Notre Dame Invitational (138th)...opened the season with a 6K time of 18:58.30 at the Fresno State Invitational, finishing 13th...academic all-conference selection.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013: Participated in two competitions...clocked an 8K time of 25:25.10 to finish 35th at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open...also competed in that distance at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, placing 63rd with a time of 28:26.00...academic all-conference selection.

MAJOR TRACK AND FIELD HIGHLIGHTS: Set an Academy record in the mile (4:01.37) at the Tyson Invitational...ran on two of the three-fastest outdoor distance medley relays in Academy history, including the 2014 squad that registered a program-record time of 9:40.12 at Penn...led off the 2015 team that clocked the third-fastest time (9:43.44) in Academy history at the Drake Relays...ran anchor on the indoor DMR that clocked the program’s sixth-fastest time (9:45.12a), en route to a runner-up finish at the 2015 MW Indoor Championships...two-time qualifier to the NCAA West Preliminary at 1500 meters...clocked the program’s ninth-fastest time at that distance (3:45.35) to set a Sophomore Class Record...set Freshman Class Record in the mile (4:08.10a) and 1500-meter run (3:45.74) during the 2014 season...also debuted on the program’s all-time standings in the indoor 800-meter run (1:51.32a) during freshman season...earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2014.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lawrence Central High School...four-time New Balance Outdoor Nationals All-American...member of the 2012 national championship team in the 4xmile...state champion in the 800-meter run...also placed second in the 1600-meter run and mile at the state championship meets...won the 800-meter run at the Midwest Meet of Champions...clocked a season-best 800-meter time of 1:50.53 at the American Milers Club High Performance meet...that time was ranked 11th among the nation’s high school seniors...finished seventh at the Indiana State Cross Country Championships...earned the Indiana High School Activity Association’s Robert S. Hinshaw Mental Attitude Award...three-time member of the CYO City Basketball Championship team...prom king...graduated with a cumulative GPA of 4.2...received an A+ in film literature class.

PERSONAL: Full name is Matthew Scott Dorsey...nickname is “The Mayor”...son of Mark and Melissa Dorsey...has two younger siblings, Madison and Maria...majoring in biology...future plans include becoming a cardiologist and/or flight surgeon, then President of the United States...also plans on being the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs one day...served on the leadership team for the Cadet Wing Shoe Drive...named to the Dean’s List...hobbies include dunking on former roommate Taylor Smith, picking Butler Basketball to win March Madness every year, watching “Friends” on Netflix, winning egg tossing competitions, frolicking through the woods with Kyle Eller and putting fried eggs on burgers...raced the Monumental Mile and the American Milers Club over the summer...also completed Operation Air Force at Keesler AFB, Miss., (“my room was 800 meters from the beach”) and served as MOUT cadre (“I shot approximately 500 rounds of Simunition at students while they completed an urban operation scenario”)...member of Cadet Squadron 20.

COACH COLE ON MATT: “Matt is as tough as they come. He doesn’t mind training and running, but he really loves to compete. Our school record holder in the mile, Matt is determined to not just be someone successful on the track and has high aspirations for the upcoming cross country season. As his aerobic development continues, Matt will continue running at an increasingly elite level that few people are capable of attaining.”
