JUNIOR YEAR | 2015: Competed in five meets, including the conference and regional championships...earned second-team all-conference honors after placing 13th at the Mountain West Championships in 27:05.7...recorded a career-best 8K of 24:04.8 at the Washington Invitational (43rd)...finished 73rd out of 288 runners at the Pre-National Invitational (24:11.0)...made 10K debut at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship, clocking 31:39.7 to finish within the top half of the field (44th)...opened the season at the Colorado State Invitational, finishing 11th with a 5K time of 15:07.9...academic all-conference selection.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014: Competed in four meets, including the conference championships...recorded a career-best 8K time of 24:58.70 to finish 40th at the Mountain West Championships...also competed in that distance at the Pre-National Invitational, finishing fifth in the Open Race with a time of 25:51.20...ran a five-mile time of 24:53.20 at the Notre Dame Invitational (138th)...opened the season with a 6K time of 18:58.30 at the Fresno State Invitational, finishing 13th...academic all-conference selection.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013: Participated in two competitions...clocked an 8K time of 25:25.10 to finish 35th at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open...also competed in that distance at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, placing 63rd with a time of 28:26.00...academic all-conference selection.

MAJOR TRACK AND FIELD HIGHLIGHTS: Earned All-America honors after finishing 10th in the 1500-meter run at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships...capped junior season with an Academy-record 1500-meter time of 3:41.30 at the Portland Track Festival...three-time qualifier to the NCAA West Preliminary at 1500 meters...also accounted for the second-fastest miles in Academy history during the indoor (4:00.30) and outdoor (4:02.00) seasons of junior year...clocked a (then) Academy record of 4:01.37 at the 2015 Tyson Invitational...debuted in 10th on the program's all-time standings in the 800-meter run (1:51.32, adjusted for altitude) as a freshman...holds five Class Records, including the freshman, sophomore and junior marks in the mile...three-time all-conference selection...ran on two of the three-fastest outdoor distance medley relays in Academy history, including the 2014 squad that registered a program-record time of 9:40.12 at the Penn Relays...led off the 2015 team that clocked the program's third-fastest time (9:43.44) at the Drake Relays...ran the opening leg of the DMR that won the 2016 Drake Relays...also anchored the 4x800-meter relay that clocked the second-fastest time in program history (7:29.14) at that meet...led off the indoor distance medley relay that posted the second-fastest time in Academy history (9:32.19) at the 2016 Alex Wilson Invitational...earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2014 and 2016

HIGH SCHOOL: Lawrence Central High School...four-time New Balance Outdoor Nationals All-American...member of the 2012 national championship team in the 4xmile...state champion in the 800-meter run...also placed second in the 1600-meter run and mile at the state championship meets...won the 800-meter run at the Midwest Meet of Champions...clocked a season-best 800-meter time of 1:50.53 at the American Milers Club High Performance meet...that time was ranked 11th among the nation's high school seniors...finished seventh at the Indiana State Cross Country Championships...earned the Indiana High School Activity Association's Robert S. PERSONAL: Full name is Matthew Scott Dorsey...nickname is "The Mayor"...son of Mark and Melissa Dorsey...has two younger siblings, Madison and Maria...majoring in biology...future plans include becoming a pilot...served as community service representative for cross country team...named to the Superintendent's List for excellence in military, academic and athletic performance...hobbies include fishing for sharks, showing up at the gym to play pick-up basketball in full cross country uniform, scuba diving, playing cards, pretending to be a wizard in Harry Potter and starting U-S-A chants...favorite food is svíčková, with dumplings...completed the Powered Flight course and worked as a counselor during Falcon Sports Camps over the summer...also traveled home to Indianapolis and took a vacation to Tampa Bay...member of Cadet Squadron 20.

COACH COLE ON MATT: Matt is nearing the end of the developmental curve in terms of what collegiate athletics is all about. Matt has always been a strong competitor. Then he committed to elevating his training to elevate his performances. He stayed persistent when massive PRs weren't immediate; he's now the fastest 1500m runner in USAFA history. As a senior, the last part of Matt's USAFA legacy will be as a leader. He knows it's his time, and by embracing that opportunity, Matt will enable our team to succeed.
