Captain Jennifer Lyons has been the women's cross country and track and field assistant coach since returning to the Academy in 2000. In 2001, her team finished third in the Mountain West Conference and seventh at the Mountain Region. The Falcons sent one woman to the NCAA Division I championships, which made the 2001 season one of the most successful seasons for an Academy's women's team since entering the Division I arena in 1996. The team also earned NCAA Division I all-Academic honors. Lyons is from Colorado Springs, Colo., and attended Harrison High School, graduating in 1990. She was selected to attend the Air Force Academy and graduated in June 1994 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. While at the Academy, Lyons was a member of the women's cross country and track and field teams for four years. Her athletic highlights include being on the top 10 lists for the women's 4x400-meter relay, 4x800m relay and the 1,500 and 800m runs. Lyons was a member of the 1992 and `93 NCAA qualifying cross country teams, finishing sixth in `92 and 11th in `93. She was the team captain in 1994, voted outstanding track competitor in '93 and was the team's outstanding track and field athlete in '94. Upon commissioning, Lyons was assigned to the Academy as an admissions advisor in the minority enrollment office. In 1995, she was reassigned to Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C., where she worked as the chief of relocations and employment, and chief of customer support for the Office of Special Investigations' military personnel flight. In 1997, Lyons moved to Andrews AFB, Md., where she was the chief of officer assignments for the Office of Special Investigations. From there, she was assigned in August 1999 to Camp Humphreys Army Installation, Republic of Korea as the squadron section commander for the 607th Combat Communications Squadron. Lyons was a member of the all-Air Force track team in 1996, and has competed in numerous 5K, 10K and 10-mile road races, including the 1997 New York City Marathon.
