FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014: Competed at the Fresno State Invitational, clocking a 4200-meter time of 15:28.20 to finish 15th.

MAJOR TRACK AND FIELD HIGHLIGHTS: Debuted on the Academy’s all-time standings in three events during freshman season...individually clocked the program’s fifth-fastest mile (4:53.30, adjusted for altitude) and eighth-fastest 1500-meter (4:29.30) times...anchored the distance medley relay squad that recorded the second-fastest time in Academy history (11:49.14a) to finish fourth at the Mountain West Indoor Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL: Ralston Valley High School...four-year letterwinner in both track and cross country...earned four first-team all-conference selections in track...also claimed second-team all-conference in cross country as a senior...member of the student government all four years...served as student body vice-president as a senior...competed in a year-round club called Angel Flight...qualified for the Junior Olympic Nationals...finished fourth in the 2000-meter steeplechase and 14th in the 800-meter run at that meet...named High School All-American in the steeplechase.

PERSONAL: Full name is Giulianna Gabrielle Vessa...nickname is “G”...daughter of Frank and Deana Vessa...has one older brother, Dominic...also has a younger brother, Anthony, and a younger sister, Siena...majoring in behavioral science...future plans include becoming an intelligence officer...served as Morale, Welfare and Recreation Clerk for squadron...attended the Academy’s Prep School...awarded the Athletic Rope for having a PFT score that was ranked within the top 10-percent of class...hobbies include baking, cooking, hiking, camping, snowboarding, hanging out with friends and spending time with family...would like to add “some things I live by: remain humble, always look for opportunities to learn from those before you, and seek perfection knowing that it is only attainable through your discipline and actions, seek support through your family, friends and most importantly, God”...completed Expeditionary Survival and Evasion Training (ESET) over the summer...also took an academic class (Chemistry 200) and went on leave...member of Cadet Squadron 18.


COACH COLE ON GUILIANNA: “Guilianna emerged somewhat unexpectedly as one of our top mid-distance runners as a freshman. After significant contributions to our team during track and breaking into USAFA’s Top 10 list for the mile and 1500-meter, she has become one of our great examples of training leaders through her excitement to the process of becoming an elite athlete. That commitment will also give Giulianna credibility as a team leader, putting her in a position to make everyone around her better.”
