JUNIOR YEAR | 2016: Competed in six meets, including the NCAA Championships...earned all-region honors and qualified to the national meet after finishing 14th at the NCAA Mountain Regional (10K time of 31:16.0)...claimed first-team all-conference accolades by placing sixth at the Mountain West Championships...posted a season-best 8K time of 24:13.2 at that meet...was the Falcons' top finisher at the Pre-National Invitational, finishing 33rd out of 264 runners (24:36.3)...also led the team at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, finishing 17th out of 202 runners with a career-best five-mile time of 24:04.8...that was the second-fastest five-mile race in Academy history...posted a career-best 10K of 31:11.4 to finish 144th at the NCAA Championships...opened the season with a 5K time of 15:15.6 at the Colorado State Invitational (13th)...academic all-conference selection.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2015: Raced in five meets, including the conference and regional championships...opened the season with a seventh-place finish at the Colorado State Invitational...recorded a 5K time of 15:03.5 at that meet to debut in third on the Academy's all-time standings...finished within the top half of the field in both post-season meets...clocked an 8K time of 29:04.5 to finish 30th at the Mountain West Championships...registered a career-best 10K time of 31:51.2 to place 50th at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships...clocked a career-best 8K time of 23:49.9 to finish 26th out of 106 runners at the Washington Invitational...clocked a time of 24:20.5 at the Pre-National Invitational (105th)...academic all-conference selection.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014: Participated in five meets, including the conference and regional championships...was the team's top finisher at the Woody Greeno Invitational...placed fourth at that meet with a debut time of 26:18.40...clocked a career-best 8K time of 24:26.90 to finish 24th at the Mountain West Championships...also ran that distance at the Pre-National Invitational (26:01.30, 183rd)...clocked a five-mile time of 24:43.00 at the Notre Dame Invitational (121st)...finished 72nd at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships following a 10K time of 32:11.55...academic all-conference selection.

MAJOR TRACK AND FIELD HIGHLIGHTS: Qualified to the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000-meter run as a junior...finished 14th in the West Preliminary...earned all-conference honors in that event after finishing third at the 2017 Mountain West Outdoor Championships...set a Junior Class Record of 29:13.21 to move into fourth on the program's all-time list...also clocked the seventh-fastest 5000-meter time during the outdoor season (13:59.00) and the ninth-fastest time during the indoor season (14:08.27)...set a Freshman Class Record at 5000 meters during the 2015 outdoor season, clocking a (then) best time of 14:22.70 to shatter the previous 23-year-old record by 11 seconds.

HIGH SCHOOL: Olentangy Liberty High School...two-time All-Ohio selection in cross country...also earned four all-state honors in track and field...named New Balance Nationals All-American in the 4xmile...earned academic all-state honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

PERSONAL: Full name is Andrew David Johnston...goes by Andy...son of Andy and Ann Johnston...both parents were born and raised in Scotland and came to the U.S. after they were married...has three siblings, Callum, Duncan and Mhairi...Callum is in nursing school at Midway University, while Duncan and Mars both attend The Ohio State University...majoring in management...future plans include becoming a pilot, before eventually opening a candy company named after his sister, Mars...currently serving as squadron's B-3 Element NCO...named to the Dean's List and Athletic Director's List...member of the "500 Club" for recording a perfect score on the AFT...received Jump Wings in the summer of 2015...hobbies include giving relationship advice, conducting absurd science experiments that result in the perfect cup of coffee, wearing trucker hats, eating granola and philosophizing...would like to give a shout out to "my family and friends who are cool"...worked Air Force Sports Camps and completed the Powered Flight program over the summer...member of Cadet Squadron 12.

Yet the example Andy will set for our team over the course of the year is that athletes can't abandon the process once they attain a high level.
