Twelve members of the Air Force cross country team Academic All-Mountain West honors, the league office recently announced. Represented by eight men and four women, the cross country squad collected the most honors of any sport at the Academy during the 2014 fall season.
Air Force senior distance runner Rebecca Esselstein was named a Rhodes Scholar for 2015, the prestigious Rhodes Trust announced over the weekend. Esselstein, a native of Dayton, Ohio, is the Academy's 38th recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and the 12th cadet-athlete to earn the honor.
Air Force senior Riley Coates capped off an impressive 2014 cross country season this afternoon (Nov. 22) by finishing within the top third of the field at the 2014 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. Competing against 250 of the nation's top distance runners, Coates placed 77th with a 10K time of 31:20.3.
The 2014 cross country season comes to a close this weekend, as senior Riley Coates travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Coates, who earned an individual bid to the national meet after a strong performance at last week's regional, will run in the 10K final on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Senior Riley Coates was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Monday morning (Nov. 17) after earning all-region honors at the NCAA Mountain Regional Cross Country Championships last Friday and qualifying to this week's NCAA National Championships.
