USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The renovation of the Air Force Academy Cadet Outdoor Track Stadium reached another milestone during the Sept. 24-27 weekend, as construction crews poured the base layer of asphalt on the track and field event runways. The outdoor home of the Falcons' track and field team is in the midst of a $3.8-million renovation.
Once the demolition was completed in early September, construction crews began creating the outline of the new venue by pouring concrete curbs around the track and field event runways. Crews also focused on the track's new drainage system. The asphalt base layer for the track and runways was laid during the last week of the month, in preparation for the urethane layer.
The Cadet Outdoor Track Stadium construction project will continue throughout the coming weeks, as crews pour the urethane layer and lay sod on the infield. Further plans include the construction of a new pressbox and relocation of the bleachers to the east side of the track.
