COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force track and field team placed 41 athletes on the Mountain West academic all-conference team, the league office announced on July 7. The men accounted for 26 of the Academy's 69 total honorees, while the women added 15 selections.
Six Falcons - seniors Dan Bieber, Jake Hawkins, David Ptacek, Cort Rogers, Regan Rogers and Paige Shirley - collected academic all-conference honors for the fourth consecutive year, joining an elite group of track and field athletes to earn academic honors all four seasons.
Senior Josh Nielsen, as well as juniors Rebecca Esselstein, Bryce Mitchell, Elliot Myers, Kobi Rex, Casey Riggs, Sierra Schepper and Jake Spuller, collected their third academic all-league selection, while senior Kim Smith, junior Taylor Drolshagen and sophomores Sean Bapty, Grant Caswell, Grant Hamilton, Andrew Hood, Jordan McCool, Kevin Mihalik, Daniel Shellhouse, Stone Shoaf and Riley Vann all earned their second nod.
Seniors Matthieu Caldwell and Annette Eichenberger concluded their collegiate careers with their first academic all-conference selection, while the sophomore duo of Kyle Jameson and Angelea Ross joined freshmen Cecily Agu, Matt Drosey, Jason Engel, Eric Hoff, Taylor Hulslander, Kirsten Linnartz, Emily Richard, Stephanie Robb, Sydney Rohlwing, Taylor Smith, Andrew Steinemann and Emily Smithwick as first-time academic all-MW honorees.
With a 3.98 GPA, Esselstein holds the highest GPA of all of the Academy's academic all-MW selections for winter and spring sports. Overall, the track and field team accounted for 41 of the Academy's 69 academic all-conference selections for the spring semester, which includes baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's track and field.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.

In addition, the Mountain West honored 29 Air Force athletes - including 16 members of the Falcons' track and field team - with distinction as a MW Scholar-Athlete on July 8. Bapty, Esselstein, Linnartz, freshman Taylor Schwenke and classmate Samantha Skold received the league's highest academic honor in both cross country and track, while Bieber, Hoff, Jameson, McCool, Nielsen, Ptacek, Rex, Richard, Rogers, Shoaf and Vann received distinction in track and field.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at a member institution, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and have participated in at least one varsity competition of a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Athletes listed on the academic all-conference list with an asterisk (**) next to their name also received MW Scholar-Athlete honors.
