Current and Former Falcons Head to USATF Championships

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Current Air Force sophomore Zach Perkins and 2012 graduate Paige Blackburn will compete at the 2013 USA Senior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 20-23. Perkins will compete in the 1500-meter run at Drake Stadium, while Blackburn will compete in both the discus throw and javelin throw.
Perkins, the Mountain West champion and Academy record holder who finished second at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month, will compete in the first round of the 1500-meter run at 5:00 p.m., on Thursday (June 20). The top three finishers from each heat, as well as the next three fastest runners, will advance to the finals at 5:40 p.m., on Saturday, June 22.
Blackburn, who is ranked second on the Academy's all-time list in all four outdoor throwing events, will compete in the javelin throw on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. Blackburn, who is currently studying at the University of Florida and representing the U.S. Air Force, will also return to Drake Stadium on Sunday, June 23, when she competes in the discus throw at 2:20 p.m.

The 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be broadcast on a variety of platforms, including the new USATF.TV, which will debut this week for the national championship meet. All times listed below are Eastern.

In addition, Air Force assistant coach Juli Benson will be watching the outcome of the women's distance events, as she will serve as the coach of those runners during the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Athletics, which will be held August 10-18 in Moscow.
