EUGENE, Ore. - Former Air Force standout and two-time NCAA javelin champion Dana (Pounds) Lyon opened her 2011 season with a first-place finish at the Oregon Twilight on Saturday, May 7, at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. With a winning throw of 174'6", Pounds easily won her event and automatically qualified for the USATF National Championships in late June.

Lyon, who represents Nike as a member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program, bettered the eight-competitor field by over 10 feet, as Kim Kreiner, the former American record holder, finished second with a throw of 162'4". Despite being just a few months removed from knee surgery, Lyon's throw surpassed the USATF A-Standard by nearly a foot, giving her an automatic entry into the national championships.

The Falcons' three-time MVP will compete at the Tucson Elite Meet on May 19, as she prepares for the USATF National Championships, which will be held June 23-26 in Eugene, Ore.
