Dana Pounds Earns MWC Athlete of the Week Honor
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For the second time this season, Air Force senior javelin thrower Dana Pounds was named the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today (May 2).
Pounds won her third straight javelin title at the Drake Relays last weekend. Her throw of 178'10" topped the rest of the field by nearly 13 feet and made her the first three-time javelin champion in the history of the Drake Relays. Pounds' mark was the second-best throw by any athlete at the Relays since 1986, falling behind her own throw of 181'2" last year. Her toss is also the second best in the MWC this season, behind her own mark of 186'10". It is the second time this season that Pounds has been named the conference's top athlete and the fourth time in her career. This week, she was joined by Chris Carter of BYU, who was the men's athlete of the week.
