USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Freshman Melissa Beerse smashed her own Academy record in the pole vault, as the Air Force track and field team competed at the Wyoming Invitational on Saturday, April 28. Beerse cleared a career-best 12'9½" to win the event, improve her NCAA Regional Qualifying standard and set a new Air Force Academy record.

With nearly a foot-and-a-half separation between Beerse and the runner-up (11'5"), she blasted past the competition and topped her own personal-best by nearly four inches. Since her arrival at the Academy, the outdoor pole vault standard has increased by nine inches. In addition to her impact on the outdoor mark, Beerse also holds the indoor record at 12'4¼".
