Former Falcons Shine at Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. - Former Air Force distance runners Ben Payne and Elissa Ballas had strong showings during the 2011 Boston Marathon this morning (Apr. 18). With a time of 2:21:01 to finish 24th overall, Payne paced the USAF team to a third-place finish in the team standings. Ballas ran 2:58:00 to finish 83rd among female runners.
Payne's time was a career best by 1:18, while Ballas was just 16 seconds off of her personal best.
Payne was a four-year letterwinner with both the cross country and track teams, a two-time MVP of the cross country team, the 2004 MVP of the track team and the Academy's Most Valuable Male Athlete as a senior. Ballas was a three-year letterwinner, serving as the team captain for both the cross country and track teams as a senior. She was the department's recipient of the Athletics Leadership award.
