USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Junior Evan McDowell and freshman Alexa Chacon kick off a busy week of competition for the Air Force track and field team tomorrow morning (April 16), as they begin the California Invitational Multi-Events Meet in Azusa, Calif.
Competing in the "A" section of the decathlon, McDowell begins competition with the 100-meter dash at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 16. He will also compete in the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash during the first day of action at the Cougar Athletic Stadium on the campus of Azusa Pacific University, before contesting the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500-meter run on Thursday, April 17.
Chacon will compete in the California Invitational field of the heptathlon, which gets underway on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., with the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash. Following tomorrow's competition, the California Invitational field will be broken into three sections for Thursday's events (long jump, javelin throw, 800-meter run), with the "C" flight beginning at 8:30 a.m., the "B" flight beginning at 10:00 a.m., and the "A" flight starting at 11:30 a.m.
The rest of the squad travels to California later in the week for the Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational. A complete preview for those events will be available tomorrow.
