COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior Jamiel Trimble and sophomore Kathryn Tomczak were honored by the Mountain West this afternoon (March 28), as Trimble was named the MW Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Tomczak was selected as the MW Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. It is the second straight week where Air Force has captured these two awards.
Trimble picked up a pair of top-three finishes and anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay in his outdoor debut at the Aztec Invitational on March 25. The junior clocked a time of 20.83 – the fastest time in the conference and 11th-fastest time in the country – to finish second amongst collegiate runners and third overall in the 200-meter dash, while recording the fastest collegiate time in the 110-meter hurdles (14.36) to finish second overall. Trimble also anchored the 4x100-meter relay that won the day’s opening event with a time of 41.21.
With a career-best clearance of 13’4¼”, Tomczak shattered the Academy record in the pole vault during a winning performance at the Aztec Invitational. That height, which broke the program’s five-year-old record by nearly three inches, is currently ranked second in the conference and 15th in the NCAA. Tomczak has now cleared the 13-foot bar in back-to-back outdoor meets and for the 10th-straight regular season meet this season.
The Falcons return to action this weekend, when they travel to Northern California for the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on March 31 and the Stanford Invitational on March 31-April 1.
