ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After guiding the Falcons to their first-ever conference title, Air Force track and field head coach Ralph Lindeman was selected by his peers as the Mountain West Men's Indoor Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the league championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
Lindeman coached the men's team to the first conference title in program history on Saturday, Feb. 25, as the Falcons won six event titles, including a meet-clinching victory in the 4x400-meter relay. Air Force also won the high jump, pole vault, 3000-meter run, 5000-meter run and distance medley relay. The Falcons amassed 156.50 points to edge out conference newcomer Boise State by just 1.50 points.
The Falcons' conference title is just the third Mountain West title in any sport at the Academy (men's cross country, 2003; men's basketball, 2004).
It is the fifth indoor award for Lindeman, who also tallied the honor in 2001, 2004, 2008 and 2011. The Falcons' mentor has also earned the MW Outdoor Coach of the Year award twice (2001, 2003), as well as awards as the WAC Indoor Coach of the Year (1995) and the WAC Cross Country Coach of the Year (1991). He was also honored as the 1989 Big West Coach of the Year while at Long Beach State.
