COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three members of the Air Force track and field team were honored by the Mountain West this afternoon (Feb. 21), as the conference announced their final weekly awards of the indoor season. Junior Micah Fontaine was named the MW Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while senior Jake LaCoste and freshman Cambria Galloway were honored as the MW Indoor Field Athletes of the Week.
Fontaine clocked a career-best time of 8.02 to debut in 10th on the Academy’s all-time standings in the 60-meter hurdles during last week’s Air Force Collegiate Open. Fontaine, who finished second in the meet and is ranked second in the Mountain West, became just the second Air Force hurdler in the last decade to break into the program’s top 10.
LaCoste collected a pair of runner-up finishes during that meet, including a career-best clearance of 6’7¾” in the high jump – the sixth-best jump in the conference this season – and a distance of 22’3¾” in the long jump. Galloway, who also earned a second-place finish in the long jump (16’11¼”), debuted in 10th on the Academy’s all-time standings in the triple jump, as she posted a career-best distance of 37’5¼” to take third.
Fontaine, LaCoste, Galloway and the rest of the Air Force track and field team open action at the MW Indoor Championships tomorrow (Feb. 22) morning. The three-day meet, which runs through Saturday, Feb. 24, will take place at the ABQ Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque.
