Volunteer Coach Jenny Simpson Advances at Olympic Trials

    EUGENE, Ore. - Jenny Simpson, a volunteer coach for the Air Force track and field team, advanced to the semifinals of the 1500-meter during first-round action at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday, June 28.

    Simpson, who trains at the Academy with head cross country coach Juli Benson, clocked a time of 4:16.70 to finish second in the first heat and 19th overall. Morgan Uceny, of adidas, clocked the fastest time of the three heats to win the qualifying round in 4:14.07.

    With her time, Simpson advanced to the event semifinals at 3:45 p.m. (PST) tomorrow (June 29). The Falcons will also be represented in the javelin throw tomorrow, as 2012 graduate Paige Blackburn and 2006 graduate Dana Pounds-Lyon compete in the qualifying round at 2:30 p.m.
