EUGENE, Ore. -- Two recently graduated Air Force track athletes opened competition at the 2009 USA Track and Field Championships this evening (June 25) at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Daniel Castle and Sean Houseworth competed in the 1500- and 10,000-meter races, respectively.

Castle finished 40th in the first round of competition for the 1500-meter run, clocking a time of 3:50.78. Lopez Lomong, who trained with the Falcons' program prior to his appearance at the 2008 Olympic Games, finished fourth in a time of 3:44.62.

Houseworth, who hurt his hamstring earlier in the week, was forced to pull out of the 10,000-meter race with just over two laps remaining. Houseworth had been having a strong race before his withdrawal. NCAA champion Galen Rupp won the U.S. title with a time of 27:52.53.
