DES MOINES, Iowa - Four members of the Air Force track and field team combined to set a new Academy standard in the sprint medley relay as the Falcons concluded competition at the 98th-annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, April 28. That group was one of two relay teams, four throwers and one individual runner to compete this afternoon.

Sophomore Kellen Curry, junior Travis Picou, senior Nick Luina and junior Kevin Hawkins teamed up to place fifth in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay with an Academy-record time of 3:19.52. That time shatters the previous record that had stood for 41 years, as James Thompson, Douglas Withers, Russell Clemons and Dale Stovall clocked the previous program standard of 3:21.4 in 1966.

Luina also ran a leg of the distance medley relay team that finished ninth at the Drake Relays. Luina and classmate Richard Elmore joined juniors Calvin Glass and Ian McFarland to cross the finish line in 10:00.89.

In addition, junior Kelly Robinson clocked a time of 4:32.37 to place ninth in the 1500-meter run.

From the field, senior Olivia Korte and freshman Sara Neubauer placed 18th and 19th, respectively, in the shot put. Korte tossed a distance of 45'8½", while Neubauer recorded a mark of 45'6½".

The Falcons also had a pair of throwers in the hammer. Sophomore Kirk Devine recorded a distance of 184'2" to place 20th, while freshman Dan Paladino posted a throw of 174'7" to finish 28th.

Air Force returns to action next Friday (May 4), when they host the annual Ris Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational at the Cadet Outdoor Track.
