DES MOINES, Iowa - Moving into the top three of the Academy record book for their respective events, Air Force seniors Jen Bremser and Kate Kanetzky opened competition for the track and field team at the 104th Drake Relays' Distance Carnival on Thursday, April 25, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Crossing the finish line of the 5000-meter run in time of 16:48.02, Bremser deleted nearly one minute from her previous best mark to move from 10th to second on the Academy's all-time list. Bremser, who finished eighth among 20 competitors in the event, is only the third Falcon to ever break the 17-minute mark in an outdoor 5000-meter race.
In the 10,000-meter run, Kanetzky improved her time to 36:06.15 and moved from fourth to third on the program's all-time standings. The senior finished 10th in the 36-runner event at Drake Stadium, while knocking nearly 40 seconds from her previous best time.
The Falcons continue action at the Drake Relays in Des Moines tomorrow morning (April 26), while the Air Force hammer throwers kick off the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins in the afternoon.
