PALO ALTO, Calif. - Air Force senior Jen Bremser broke her own Academy record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, as select distance runners competed at the prestigious Stanford Invitational on Saturday, March 29, in Palo Alto, Calif. Bremser was one of three Falcons to impact the program's record book during the opening day of competition.

Competing in the second section of the steeplechase, Bremser clocked a time of 10:42.18 to finish 18th. Her season-debut time, a personal improvement of over four seconds, reset the Academy standard that she first set at last year's Drake Relays. Her time also cut 10 seconds off of the program's Senior Class Record that had stood since 2004.

In his first race of the season, sophomore Zach Perkins debuted in 10th on the Academy's all-time list of the 1500-meter run. Competing in second section of that race, Perkins clocked a time of 3:46.09 - a personal improvement of two seconds - to finish sixth in his race.

Four other Falcons joined Perkins in the men's 1500-meter run. Junior Jake Hawkins finished second in the sixth section of that race with a time of 3:49.21, while freshman Patrick Corona and senior Ted Artz finished fourth (3:54.44) and eighth (career-best 3:55.07), respectively, in the eighth section. Freshman Kevin Mihalik also competed in the eighth section of the 1500-meter run, clocking a debut time of 3:59.29.

Senior Melissa Fuerst set a new Senior Class Record in the 1500-meter run during her 2013 outdoor season debut. Clocking a time of 4:29.56, Fuerst finished fourth in her section and broke Elissa Ballas' 2003 class record by one second.

Classmate Kate Kanetzky also made her 2013 outdoor debut today, clocking a time of 17:47.45 to finish 16th in the fifth section of the 5000-meter run.

Action continues for the Falcons later tonight, when select runners take part in the 5000-meter and 10,000-meter races, which will conclude after 11 p.m. (PST). Air Force returns to Cobb Track and Angell Field tomorrow (Saturday, March 30) for the final day of competition at the Stanford Invitational.
